Good Evening Shoppers!
Age is opportunity no less,
Than youth itself, though in another dress,
And as the evening twilight fades away,
The sky is filled with stars, invisible by day.
~Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
Do you like poetry? Today I’d like to quote a poem that I’ve had memorized since High School. For some reason I just like it! I’ve always interpreted it as:
Getting older is no less of an opportunity than being youthful. For even though you change (your looks AKA – “in another dress”) that age has something to offer that youth did not. For as you get older you realize that things that weren’t so evident to you in your youth are wonderful in their own capacity as you age.
I thought I’d post this today because in the news this week is the death of Anna Nicole Smith. Like I said, whether you love or hate her, we knew the name all the same. I look at a person like that and although I would have done things differently than her, I can say that she’s probably someone who lived life as full as she could. I don’t know that a lot of us could say that! I know that personal convictions and morals come into play when it comes to “living life”, but I don’t think any of us could argue that ANS had a vivacious personality and was definitely someone who always seemed to be up for a challenge – and with a smile!
Some would say it’d be better to burn out as a bright star than fade away and disappear. What do you think? Do you think the number of years on this earth matter; or is it what you do with them that count? If you had a chance to live to be 80, but lead a very boring, mundane life OR had the chance to do everything you could have ever dreamed of and then some, but only lived to be 50, what would you choose?
Toughie for me to answer – (cause I get a bit spooked thinking about my own death) but I’d be curious to read your answers.
Tell ya what – Ms.Shop-a-lot will think about this and get back to you on her answer!
Didn’t mean to get deep on ya!
