I had a chance to use this recently and I really wasn't impressed. I think one or two of you own it but I was like, ehh...
It's a machine where you use a pushbutton to scroll to the "design" you want. Then, you run the handheld contraption sideways (Left to Right) and it prints the phrase or graphic.
The problem? It only allowed you to print in one size, and the print was pixelated!
Did I miss something with this one? Does anyone own and like it?
I know Em had pointed out that you could print on Ribbon, but If you are crafty you can print on ribbon with your printer!

It sits on my shelf because I can't get the darn thing to print in a straight line. I'm hoping the new toolkit helps. If not, I might have to Ebay it!

I saw it demonstrated at AC Moore and wasn't impressed either. You can't always tell exactly when it's going to start printing, and if you don't move exactly straight the letters looks funny.

I have one of these, and i like it, but for printing repeat designs right on a layout or on a ribbon embellishment. I have a clear acrylic ruler, and I use that to make it so in a straight line. Also, I start my design way off the beginning of what i am printing on... like, if i am doing twill tape, I use adhesive to hold it down, and print longer than what i need. Or if I am printing on a page or a paper strip, I start off the edge by a few inches and make sure i run past the end of it too. Seems to cut down on my mistakes.
Sheesh, when I first started using it, I would miss like the first 2 inches of the ribbon, and anded up putting a flower or something over the blankk spot to hide it!!!!@ LOL michelle

Xyron came out with an accessory kit for the Design Runner. It keeps the machine straight when you're trying to print and it has a second gadget that allows you to make arcs or circles and keep it lined up while doing that also.
I'm have the Design Runner and haven't used it hardly at all. However, I bought the accessory kit and now I think I'll use it more. They've also come out with another tool that allows you to type your own words or phrases into a SD memory card and inset it into the original Design Runner. It's called the Disc Maker or something like that. You can type whatever you want and if you have any of the fonts that are available for the original Design Runner, you can type in that particular font. You can't modify the size of the letters unless the particular font you're using is larger than another but you do get more choices now.
I honestly thought the Design Runner was a bad idea and looked to see it slowly phased out but with the accessory kit and the new disc maker, I think it might turn around. I plan on getting the disc maker but it's pricey, like the Design Runner so buying both at the sametime could be costly. HSN had both on in Feb or March and they were offering the Design Runner with the accessory kit. I had to buy mine separate since I've had my Design Runner since they first came out. I used a coupon at Michael's so it was too bad. Retail is about $25.00 but I do think it's worth it if you already have the Design Runner.
I suspect that it won't be too long before someone will be offering a package deal where you get the Design Runner, accessory kit, and disc maker all together. If you're thinking of buying this, I'd consider waiting until you can get a package price but then I think it'll be worth it.
